What we have actually done.
Two sets of numbers, kept apart on purpose. What has been reported about us since 2019, with the citation attached, and what we count directly from our own records.
Reported since 2019
What has been published about us.
Each one carries the outlet that reported it and the date it was true, so you can check any of them without asking us.
- Students taught since 2019 1,000+, reported by Chronicle, true as at December 2021. Reported in December 2021. It has not been restated since, so it is a floor rather than a current total.
- Alumni at top universities 20+, reported by Chronicle, true as at December 2021. Stanford, Northwestern and the University of Pennsylvania are the destinations named in reporting.
- Countries represented 12+, reported by Chronicle, true as at December 2021.
Counted by us
What we count ourselves.
Counted directly from our own records, live, each time this page loads. These cover the period we record centrally, so they sit alongside the reported figures above rather than replacing them.
We do not add these to the reported figures above, because the two measure different things over different periods. Adding them would flatter us and tell you less.
Method
If a figure cannot be traced to a source or a stated method, it does not appear here.
How we count.
Two honest numbers read stronger than one soft one.
- Students enrolled
- Distinct people enrolled in a course cohort. A person who takes two courses counts once. This is the headline figure and it is the most conservative one available.
- Club participants
- Reported separately and never blended into the headline. Clubs and courses are different commitments, so adding them together would flatter us and tell you less.
- Countries reached
- Distinct countries recorded against alumni who have chosen to make their profile public. It undercounts, because it can only see people who opted in.
- Reported, and counted
- Reported figures were published by a named outlet and carry the date they were true. Counted figures come straight from our own records. We never add them together, because they measure different things over different periods.
- What we do not publish
- Workshop headcounts as reach, social media followers, or a total that sums every person we have ever met. None of those measure whether anyone learned anything.

Who holds us to this.
Every figure we publish carries either a named source or a stated method, and anyone can check a certificate we issued without asking us first.
